White truffle hunting
The White Truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico) represents one of the most precious and peculiar treasures of the Sienese territory. An excellence with a thousand-year history that has been proudly preserved and enhanced here for years, sharing it with visitors to the farm and distributing this precious goodness all over the world.
This delicacy, whose name derives from the Latin “terrae tufer” or “excrescence of the earth”, was appreciated since the times of the Babylonians (around 3000 BC) and there is evidence of its presence also among the Sumerian people and in the times of patriarch Jacob.
Its fame extended to Greece and then, thanks to the Etruscans, to Ancient Rome. The first documented references date back to the work ”Naturalis Historia” by Pliny the Elder (79 AD), proving how the truffle was already widely appreciated since ancient times.
HOW THE VISIT TAKES PLACE
Siena, homeland of the Etruscan civilisation, preserves centuries of history also in the truffle tradition. It is a real pride for Pometti to invite you to discover the truffle ground and taste the extraordinary white truffles that it offers.
From October to December, it is possible to participate in guided tours, traditional truffle hunts with dogs and enjoy delicious truffle-based lunches or dinners.
Upon request, it is possible to ship truffles all over the world, having them arrive, in a very short time and freshly harvested, directly on your table.
